Firehouse of God Ministries – Vol. 5 – Issue #6 Jun 2012

Could 2012 be the year of Christ’s return?

The Roman Road – the Road to Salvation

The Roman Road teaching is generally used to introduce those who have given their life to Christ for the first time – but they can also be used to renew and strengthen the faith of those of us who have been well grounded in our faith for a length of time. So, whether you are a “new” Christian walking the Road to Salvation for the first time, or an “old” Christian who has been walking the Road all of their life, it is important that you read and remember these verses…

The Roman Road to Salvation is one of simplest, straight- forward messages on the subject of salvation - It is based on four scriptures found in the book of Romans.

There are 6 truths revealed in these 4 verses.

Verse 1. “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” - Romans 3:23. This is a powerful simple truth, and is a great motivation for why we preach. Everyone has sinned. “There is none righteous, No Not One.” Rom. 3:10. This puts us all in the same category.

John said “If any man says he has not sinned he is a liar”. Everyone has sinned. Mamas, daddies, babies, the scripture says we “were conceived in sin. “Psalm 51:5. We were born in sin. Everyone has the same need.

Verse 2. “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, CHRIST DIED FOR US!”

We have a condition it’s called sin. But the Love of God has provided a cure. His name is Jesus. God, recognizing that we have a condition we cannot cure, has provided one for us. The sacrifice of Jesus. Oh, that he would die for me a sinner!

Verse 3. “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift* of God is eternal life.” Romans 6:23. There are two truths revealed here. Sin has brought death. But eternal life is a Free Gift!

Salvation is a free gift. It cannot be earned, it cannot be paid back - it is free. But if we reject that which is free we deserve what we get - Death, judgment, condemnation, and eternal damnation. Salvation is FREE! All you have to do is accept it.

Verse 4. “That if you will confess with your mouth Jesus AS Lord, and believe in your heart God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Rom. 10:9. At this point you want your listeners to pray and make a confession of faith in Jesus Christ.

Keep your prayers simple, having them repeat after you - acknowledge your sin and your need for cleansing - that Christ will cleanse and forgive your sin. Pray that the Holy Spirit would come into your life and give you assurance. Remember the need to go to church and study the bible for strength.

You'll Have Doubts About Your Conversion, Word of God (excerpt) - Alex Murashko, Christian Post Reporter

Having doubts about Christianity even after having just made a profession of faith in Jesus is inevitable for new believers, say pastors, including Harvest Ministries founder Greg Laurie.

"One of the first challenges new Christians face is having doubts about their conversion and about the Word of God in general," Laurie told The Christian Post recently via email. "One must recognize that faith should be built on God's Word, not on our fleeting emotions."

"I have met people who have said, 'I tried Christianity, and it didn't work for me.' But Christianity is the Person of Jesus, and not some 'product' or 'system' we try," Lasseigne told CP. "Not every person who comes forward, goes forward.

"Christ died for our sins on the cross, so that we can receive His forgiveness, and it comes down to our decision to accept Him and follow Him, or not," he continued. "The problem is not with the salvation God provides, it's with the heart of the person rejecting it. In the parable of the sower, Jesus warned that some people would respond, but then quickly fall away, because of either difficulties and persecutions, or because of the cares and concerns of this world – Matthew 13"

Laurie warns about the challenges ahead for those having just made a decision to accept Jesus into their lives.

"Just as the devil came to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and challenged Gods' Word by saying 'Did God really say you cannot eat of every tree?' he will come to the new believer," Laurie said. "The new believer needs to immediately begin with Bible study and memorization."

He explained, "The Bible says that 'faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God' (Romans 10:17). The Bible promises believers – young and old alike – that they can be sure of their salvation: 'These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.'" 1 John 5:13

When Lasseigne was asked about what he would say to new believers in order to prepare them for the doubts ahead, he answered:

"You'll have doubts! - Mark 9:24; Luke 7:18-19 - We strongly exhort new believers, and all believers, to read, study, and obey God's Word. It takes time to study, learn, and grow in our understanding of Scripture. (I'm still learning – I still have questions!)

"God's Word is absolutely true – so our doubts arise from our inability to understand," he continued. "Doubts are actually natural, and I like to remind believers that doubt is not the opposite of faith, unbelief is! Doubt is part of growing in our faith. But at the same time, while honest doubts do come, chronic and unfounded doubts are very dangerous.

"Often times, we simply need to believe our beliefs, and doubt our doubts." However, Lasseigne warns that there is no hope apart from Christ when someone has renounced their decision altogether.

"Religion will not save you, neither will education, science, or morality – salvation is only thru faith in Christ (John 3:16, John 14:6; Acts 4:12)," the Riverside, Calif., pastor said. "Jesus himself said that if we confess Him, he'll confess us in heaven; but if we deny Him, he'll deny us in heaven (Matt. 10:32-33). If you renounce Christ, you renounce any hope of salvation. There is no other sacrifice for our sins, and only judgment remains (Heb. 10:26-27)."

Laurie was asked about what he might say to the new believer about the journey ahead.

"On more than one occasion, the Christian life is compared to running a race. If it is a race, then it is not a sprint, but a long-distance run. This is why Jesus said if we want to be His disciples we must take up the cross daily and follow Him (see Luke 9:23)," Laurie said.

"Many years ago, a young man named Billy Sunday received Jesus Christ into his life. An older believer gave him some advice that he never forgot. He said, 'William, there are three simple rules I wish you'd practice. If you do, no one will ever write 'backslider' after your name: Take 15 minutes each day to let God talk to you; allow 15 minutes to talk to Him; and then spend 15 minutes telling others about the Savior.'

Youth Update from Josh Stroud

Summer is now upon us and the opportunities to share your faith are endless. People are out and about with family picnics, sporting events, group outings, and with Firehouse of God ministry opportunities there are plenty of ways to show the love of Christ to our community. In youth, we started a series that highlights how to share your faith and also skims the surface of different religions and what they believe. This will equip the teens to share their faith effectively to people of all backgrounds.

In addition, at the end of July we are going to create an area wide event that is focused on getting out and showing God’s love in the community. We are working out the details, but it will include some kids ministry in the morning and some community projects in the afternoon. We look forward to God using this to open doors in the community for us to show the love of Christ. These events are just limited to teens, but if an adult feels a calling to the local community and wants to help out, please see me (Josh). We would love to see the church team up to make this outreach a special event that changes lives forever.

Children’s Ministry Update from Erin Stroud

The Armor of God lessons seem to be getting through to the kids on Sunday mornings. They are learning who their real enemy is (the devil) and how powerful their God is! Each week the lesson focuses on a new piece of spiritual armor that God has given us to battle the attacks Satan throws at Jesus’ followers. They get to watch videos of children acting out a drama in a school setting…just like the issues they might face each day, it shows them they aren’t alone.

Following the Armor of God, I believe God is leading me in the direction of teaching the kids more about their Savior. Keep bringing the kids this summer and they will be taken into Nazareth to meet the boy Jesus and learn more about His life here on earth. We all want to see the kids fall in love with God…without this key element, what’s the point? So excited to see what God has planned!

Blessings, Erin

Killing and Curing

The man who invented the rapid firing gun won fame, but the man who discovered anesthesia died neglected. It is more profitable to kill than to cure. ---Montgomery Advertiser

Opportunity may knock once, but temptation bangs on your front door forever.

Stand up, stand up for Jesus,

stand in his strength alone;

the arm of flesh will fail you,

ye dare not trust your own.

Put on the gospel armor,

each piece put on with prayer;

where duty calls or danger,

be never wanting there.
